You use the Track Plan form to add a new track plan to your yard or to edit an existing track plan. Within rail operations, a track plan is a record of the intended track/spot positions for each railcar. Within the Yard Editor, the track plan is a rail block on the map.

Creating a track plan includes defining its name, the number of tracks and spots, and prestage information.

Before you create a track plan, you may want to read about rail modeling concepts (on page 1) and types of track plans. In Yard Editor, you can create a track plan that is either horizontal or not horizontal; both of these track plans will display horizontally in XPS.

At automated terminals, for the RGC Scheduler to work, the prestage group needs to be assigned to the track plan and each prestage location needs to be defined in the prestage group.

To add a new track plan or edit an existing non-stack block:

  1. In the Name field, enter the block code of up to 6 characters to identify the track plan.

Within a yard model, a track plan name must be unique.

  1. Optionally, select the Spots Relative check box to create a relative track plan.

For more information, see Types of track plans.

  1. In the Long Name field, enter a descriptive name for the track plan. You can enter up to 50 characters in this field.

  2. Optionally, select the Show Spots Right-Left to display the spots on the track plan in reverse order.

  3. Optionally, select the Sub Spots Right-Left to display the sub spots in the reverse order.

In the Max. Platforms Spot field, enter the number of platforms (up to six) allowed in each spot. If you are using the relative track plan, set this number to one. However, if you are using the fixed track plan, set this number between 1 and 6, as required. The number entered must be a valid value and cannot be zero (0) or a null value.

  1. In the Track Sub-spot Table drop-down list, select the required bin name table for the current yard. You must configure the sub-spot in the bin name table to display the track spot table name in the Track Sub-spot Table drop-down list.

  2. In the Meter Mark Offset field, enter the offset (in meters) of the "0" meter mark from the track plan origin.

The Meter Mark Offset field applies to all railcar spotting methods (such as Meter Mark or GPS).

N4 supports only one Meter Mark Offset value per track plan.

  1. Click Save.

The Prestage Groups tab (on page 1) becomes available.

  1. Define prestage groups (on page 1).

  2. Click Close.

Next step(s):

After you complete your rail track plan, use the Regen XPS Display Geometries (on page 1) functionality in Yard Editor to ensure that the track plan displays correctly in XPS.

Keep in mind:

N4 uses the top edge and the left edge of the track plan in Yard Editor to calculate the offsets that are used for displaying the prestage locations and the rail background in the track plan view in XPS. Occasionally, the Track Plans in Yard Editor and XPS do not look the same (or "match"). This disparity can occur because the prestage locations were located outside (instead of inside) the track plan boundary.

To resolve this Track Plan view disparity:

  1. Redraw the track plan to include the prestage locations inside the track plan boundary.

  1. Delete the existing prestage locations.

  2. Add new prestage locations inside the track plan.

  3. Apply the Yard Model Changes.
